After extensive research, the Legal Food Hub has decided to revise our eligibility guidelines. The Legal Food Hub is always trying to ensure we are responding to current economic conditions, the realities of running a food or farm business, and respecting the generosity of attorneys providing pro-bono support. Below is a summary of the changes.
- The maximum business net income has been raised from $30,000 to $40,000.
- We have raised the number of local ingredients required for food businesses from 1 to 3.
- We now place food trucks and caterers using a minimum of 3 locally grown or raised ingredients.
- We now require revenue from the farm or food business be a source of the farmer’s or food business owner’s livelihood. This replaces our previous guideline that a business’ net income must be $5000 or that they must have started operating in the last three years.
- We have added language for employees of farms and food businesses which indicate that the legal services they are requesting must principally relate to their activities as a farmer, food business or farm and food organization.
- Our full eligibility guidelines are now available in three new languages: Maay, Portuguese, and Khmer. We have also updated the existing translations of our guidelines in Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, and Hmong.
